MEET CHRISTIAN

Christian Caban was elected to the Leon County Commission to represent District 2 in 2022. He is most passionate about serving the best interests of District 2 by prioritizing public infrastructure, economic development, community safety, youth services, and environmental issues.

A lifelong Floridian, Commissioner Caban was born in Miami and raised in Ocala, FL, as one of six children. He attended Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Science and a minor in entrepreneurship.

After college, Christian worked his way up in the hospitality industry, eventually launching multiple hospitality businesses in Leon County. Today, Christian is still responsible for the strategic oversight of these companies and brings his practical business mindset to his role on the County Commission.

In less than one full term, Christian’s key victories include:

– Proposing a crucial microgrant program to support small businesses and individuals impacted by the May 10th tornados, the first ever in the State of Florida.

– Restructured the private roads maintenance program to better serve the citizens in his rural communities.

– Leading the increase of the Parental Leave Policy at the County from six to eight weeks of paid parental leave for the birth or adoption of a child.

– The County Bus Stop Lighting Program to light kids’ bus stops in rural communities.

– Constructed two new sidewalks in Fort Braden and Woodville communities.

When voting on the budgets, Christian leans on his business acumen and has fought consistently for restraint in government spending and the ultimate respect for taxpayer dollars.

Key infrastructure projects like the increasing testing at Lake Munson, Woodville Septic to Sewer Conversions, and numerous road resurfacing projects including Highway 90 (Tennessee St), Capital Circle NW and Pensacola St.

Whether it is obtaining a safety study for a light at the Natural Bridge and Woodville HWY intersection, enhancing State Road 20 safety with improved signage, pavement markings, lighting, and speed limit reductions, or obtaining a lighting study for the business corridor of State Road 20- Christian tries to keep his finger on the pulse of the infrastructure needs in his district.

Philanthropically, Christian is a long history of supporting underprivileged youth. He served on the Children’s Home Society advisory board for four years, including as the vice chairman of the board, and has led numerous fundraisers and community events to benefit the community’s at-risk children.

Christian has sponsored community-wide events such as Woodville Founders Day, Fort Braden’s Holiday Event and hosts an annual back to school event in his district. Christian is also a proud alumnia of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Christian serves on:

  • The Board of Downtown Redevelopment Commission
  • The Circuit 2 Juvenile Justice Board
  • The Value Adjustment Board
  • Lake Talquin State Forest Management Plan Advisory Board
  • Past vice chairman of the Children’s Home Society Board

OUR MISSION

In 2024, Christian was proudly elected as the District 2 Commissioner with a singular promise — to be unapologetically selfish for District 2. His focus spans from Woodville to Fort Braden, Highway 20, the Tharpe St Corridor, the Southside, and Roberts Ave neighborhoods, ensuring that the district is equally represented. Christian believes that the community can be uplifted through tireless advocacy for the neighbors living in District 2. As their leader, he will continue to prioritize three key areas:

  1. Public safety, especially the safety of our children.
  2. Economic development by protecting small businesses to create more high-paying jobs in the community.
  3. Infrastructure improvements. Much of District 2 is rural or located on the southside of Leon County. The community deserves good roads, safe sidewalks, and continued investment in basic public needs.
